RESUMO

Thunderclap headache is a sudden severe headache with onset to peak within one minute. Multiple excruciating, short-lived thunderclap headaches over a few days to weeks are highly suggestive of reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS). RCVS can be primary or secondary to several factors, but it is rarely described after neuro-endovascular procedures using onyx material. A 10-year-old child presented with RCVS heralded by recurrent thunderclap headache following endovascular embolization of pial arteriovenous malformation with onyx material (contains organic solvent dimethyl sulfoxide). Dimethyl sulfoxide is an angiotoxic material that can cause dysregulation of cerebral vascular tone triggering reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome. Recurrent thunderclap headache after embolization procedures using onyx material should prompt for the diagnosis of reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome.

We investigate the unusual phase transitions in SrRuO3and Sr0.5Ca0.5Ru1-xCrxO3(x = 0, 0.05 and 0.1) employing x-ray diffraction, resistivity, magnetic studies and x-ray photoemission spectroscopy. Our results show the compounds undergo a crossover from itinerant ferromagnetism to localized ferromagnetism. The combined studies suggest Ru and Cr be in the 4+ valence state. A Griffith phase and an enhancement in Curie temperature (Tc) from 38 K to 107 K are observed with Cr doping. A shift in the chemical potential towards the valence band is observed with Cr doping. In the metallic samples, interestingly, a direct link between the resistivity and orthorhombic strain is observed. We also observe a connection between orthorhombic strain andTcin all the samples. Detailed studies in this direction will be helpful to choose suitable substrate materials for thin-film/device fabrication and hence manoeuvre its properties. In the non-metallic samples, the resistivity is mainly governed due to disorder, electron-electron correlation effects and a reduction in the number of electrons at the Fermi level. The value of the resistivity for the 5% Cr doped sample suggests semi-metallic behaviour. Understanding its nature in detail using electron spectroscopic techniques could unravel the possibility of its utility in high-mobility transistors at room temperature and its combined property with ferromagnetism will be helpful in making spintronic devices.

Bimetallic Pt-Pd nanoparticles were dispersed on polypyrrole coated indium-tin oxide coated polyethylene terephthalate sheets (ITO-PET sheets). The excellent filming property of pyrrole gives a high porous uniform active area for the proper adsorption of bimetallic transition metal nanoparticles. Electrochemical behavior of the modified electrodes was determined using cyclic voltammetry and impedance studies. The physicochemical properties of the modified electrodes were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. To study the electrochemical oxidation of 4-(hydroxymethyl) pyridine in the presence of sodium nitrate in aqueous acidic medium, the modified electrode was used. It is evident from the study that the modified electrode shows better electrochemical activity towards the oxidation of 4-(hydroxymethyl) pyridine.

A 56-year-old female presented with intermittent hemoptysis and was diagnosed with lung cancer. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/CT for staging revealed hypermetabolic liver (hot liver), uptake in the mediastinal lymph nodes and reduced uptake in the kidneys. Unexpectedly, liver biopsy findings were consistent with tuberculous infection. Following the intensive phase of antituberculous treatment, repeat CT revealed significant resolution of the mediastinal lymph nodes making the lung cancer Stage 1 (T1 lesion). She underwent left lower lobectomy as a definitive surgical treatment. Positron emissiontomography/CT scan in this patient was considered to be a hepatic superscan since it revealed a hot liver.

We have studied structural and electronic phenomena in GdCu using x-ray diffraction (xrd), photoemission spectroscopic (PES) techniques and band structure calculations. Our structural studies show that the as prepared GdCu sample does not stabilise completely in cubic CsCl phase even at room temperature (RT). The thermal hysteresis is observed in the lattice parameter that appears to be due to strain and dislocations at the surface. The behaviour of the intensity of the most intense xrd peak suggests phase coexistence and structural link with magnetic properties. After undergoing thermal cycling to RT, with an increase in polishing depth, the GdCu sample shows different surface and bulk crystal structures at RT. This behaviour is in contrast to the behaviour of the asprepared one. The surface is predominantly cubic while the bulk exposes more its hidden orthorhombic FeB phase with an increase in the depth of polishing. To understand the manifestation of phase separation on the electronic structure, we have used DFT and DFT + U calculations and PES studies. Our results show the importance of on-site Coulombic interaction in Gd 4f and Cu 3d orbitals. At the Fermi edge, in addition to the significant contribution of Gd 5d and Cu 3d, there is also a contribution of Cu 4p states. The PES studies exhibit chemical potential shift as one compares the asprepared GdCu and the GdCu that has undergone thermal cycling. We have discussed the effect of the chemical potential shift on the valence band and core- level spectra. We believe our results will be helpful in providing insight into the generic property displayed by systems that exhibit strain dominated phase separation.

RESUMO

The spin vector of a spin-1 system, unlike that of a spin-1/2 system, can lie anywhere on or inside the Bloch sphere representing the phase space. As a consequence, the geometrical and topological properties of the spin-1 phase space of quantum states are richer and require a generalization of Berry's phase. For special trajectories passing through the center of the Bloch sphere (singular loops), the geometric phase has a non-Abelian nature. Here, we experimentally explore this geometric phase for singular loops in a spin-1 quantum system using ultracold ^{87}Rb atoms confined in an optical trap using microwave and rf control fields.

BACKGROUND: Conventional investing and casting techniques are time-consuming and usually requires 2-4 h for completion. Accelerated nonstandard, casting techniques have been reported to achieve similar quality results in significantly less time, namely, in 30-40 min. During casting, it is essential to achieve compensation for the shrinkage of solidifying alloy by investment expansion. The metal casting ring restricts the thermal expansion of investment because the thermal expansion of the ring is lesser than that of the investment. The use of casting ring was challenged with the introduction of the ringless technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 40 test samples of nickel chromium (Ni-Cr) cast copings were obtained from the patterns fabricated using inlay casting wax. The 20 wax patterns were invested using metal ring and 20 wax patterns were invested using the ringless investment system. Of both the groups, 10 samples underwent conventional casting, and the other 10 underwent accelerated casting. The patterns were casted using the induction casting technique. All the test samples of cast copings were evaluated for vertical marginal gaps at four points on the die employing a stereo optical microscope. RESULTS: The vertical marginal discrepancy data obtained were tabulated. Mean and standard deviations were obtained. Vertical discrepancies were analyzed using analysis of variance and Tukey honestly significantly different. The data obtained were found to be very highly significant (P < 0.001). Mean vertical gap was the maximum for Group II (53.64 µm) followed by Group IV (47.62 µm), Group I (44.83 µm) and Group III (35.35 µm). CONCLUSION: The Ni-Cr cast copings fabricated with the conventional casting using ringless investment system showed significantly better marginal fit than that of cast copings fabricated from conventional and accelerated casting with metal ring investment and accelerated casting using ringless investment since those copings had shown the least vertical marginal discrepancies among the four methods evaluated in this study.

AIM: The aim of this study was to compare the shaping ability of two different rotary Nickel -Titanium (Ni-Ti) files, One shape file and Twisted files in a simulated artificial canals. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 40 endodontic training blocks were used in this study and divided in two groups consisting of 20 each ( n = 20) and the shaping ability was accessed based on the left over ink stain in the artificial canal. RESULTS: Image proplus analysis software and stereomicroscope were used for analysing the shaping ability of the files and statistical analysis was done by SPSS software. Twisted files showed better shaping ability compared to one shape file both experimentally and statistically. CONCLUSION: It can be concluded that twisted files shaped the canals better then one shape file.
